We were inspired by the BBC Radio 4 programme From Our Own Correspondent, where you can hear a report sent in from around the world about life. It could be a war zone, it could be an election in Spain, it could be a farm in Argentina. They describe the content as "Insight, wit and analysis"
When you join the Holman Street Press you become our correspondent in… wherever you are in Buckinghamshire. You choose what to report about, what interests you. You write at home on a schedule of your own devising. We ask three things of you:
We take what you've written and find a place for the world to read it. That can be an online blog, or it might be in print in a local parish magazine, delivered to houses.
Sometimes something comes up and the call goes out for our Holman Street Press journalists to pay attention to particular topics or events. This on is Aylesbury Town Council's annual Park Life Weekend.
If you're going anyway then adding some journalism may be easy and fun, or this might be your chance to go on a mission and make it happen. There's one extra step to take part:
The whole event is divided into three major parts:
Commit to writing about one, two or all three of these major parts of the event. Pick the one that interests you the most. This doesn't have to be a 'review' — it can be a personal view, just tell us what you loved, how you felt, why you went and what your friends said that was funny on the day. News does not have to be Earth-shattering, it can just be affirming and supportive. As the young people at the event you can share your point of view to help others see it.
